KUPAAH unites UCPSc alumni to celebrate legacy and support future pharmacists.
KUPAAH is a vibrant alumni association uniting UCPSc graduates to celebrate legacy, foster connections, and support future pharmacists.
It is a proud and momentous occasion to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of UCPSC and KUPAAH, marking 50 years of excellence in pharmacy education, alumni engagement, and service to the healthcare ecosystem. From its humble beginnings in 1974, UCPSC has grown into a globally respected institution, thanks to the vision, dedication, and selfless contributions of its alumni, faculty, and administrators.
This Golden Jubilee Souvenir reflects the collective thoughts and experiences of distinguished alumni, academicians, and healthcare professionals who have shaped UCPSC’s remarkable journey. KUPAAH, as a premier Pharma Alumni Association, has played a pivotal role over the last 25 years by organizing academic, cultural, and professional initiatives in collaboration with reputed associations, benefitting students, staff, and industry professionals alike.
The values and ideals laid down by the senior alumni have been faithfully carried forward, setting benchmarks of inspiration, excellence, and measurable achievement. Fifty years of consistent progress stand as a testament to UCPSC’s impeccable legacy in pharmacy education and research.
I am honoured to be associated with these Golden Jubilee celebrations as Chairman of the Organizing Committee and President of KUPAAH. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, teachers, alumni, sponsors, volunteers, and organizing members whose efforts have made these celebrations meaningful and memorable.
Rooted in India’s rich tradition of knowledge, we believe true education goes beyond literacy-it enlightens, empowers, and shapes values. May this milestone inspire future generations to take UCPSC to even greater heights and establish it as a centre of excellence in pharmacy education across the nation.

History and Legacy of University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UCPSc), Kakatiya University
Osmania University introduced a 4-year pharmacy degree program under the guidance of Late Sri Kaluri Hanumanth Rao Garu, Reader, Department of Chemical Technology during the academic year 1974–75. The course was shifted in 1975-76 to the Arts and Science College, Warangal, which was then functioning under Osmania University. Sri P.Amareshwar was the first faculty of the B.Pharm Program who coordinated with Late Sri K.Hanumanth Rao in running the program. In its early days, students attended basic sciences and English classes taught by the faculty of Arts and Science college, Warangal, medical-related classes and practical sessions at Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, while engineering subjects were taught at Regional Engineering College Warangal. Some sessions were also held at the Postgraduate Centre (PG Centre).
Initially, students resided outside the campus but were later accommodated in the hostels of Kakatiya Medical College and the PG Centre. In 1976, the Government upgraded the PG Centre into Kakatiya University. Consequently, the pharmacy course was officially transferred to the newly established Kakatiya University from the academic year 1978–79.
A dedicated hostel facility was arranged for students outside the campus in Nayeem Nagar. The program gradually evolved into a full-fledged University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UCPSc), with a dedicated building constructed within the University campus.
Over the years, UCPSc became destination to several distinguished academicians viz., Prof. C. K. Kokate, Prof. V. Malla Reddy, Prof. D. Rambhau, Prof. P. Amareshwar, Prof. Y. Madhusudhan Rao, Dr. Hargovind Singh Rathore, Prof. M.C. Prabhakara, Prof. D. R. Krishna, Prof. A. V. N. Appa Rao and Prof. S. S. Apte. A good number of alumni after completing their studies joined UCPSc to serve as academicians. Under their leadership and guidance, UCPSc emerged as one of India’s premier pharmacy institutions, achieving international recognition for excellence in education and research.
The college currently offers undergraduate (B.Pharm) and postgraduate (M.Pharm)programs in specializations such as Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Industrial Pharmacy and Pharmacognosy. UCPSc also offers comprehensive Ph.D. and post-doctoral programs, with over 400 doctorates awarded to date. The college has hosted numerous national and international conferences, many funded by prestigious agencies like AICTE, UGC, and DST. It also served as a National Nodal Centre for AICTE’s Quality Improvement Program (QIP), conducting several short-term faculty development courses.
The Silver Jubilee celebrations during 1999–2000 were held in a grand manner, showcasing the institution’s growth and accomplishments. Several faculty members received Best Teacher Awards and TAS Fellowships. Many pursued post-doctoral research under prestigious international fellowships such as BOYSCAST, UNESCO, DAAD, Alexander von Humboldt (AvH), CV Raman. The college has been supported by UGC-DRS-SAP (Rs.46.60 lakhs) & DST-FIST (Rs.32.00 lakhs). UCPSc also houses a well-equipped Electronic Data Access Lab with internet facilities and continues to be a hub for quality improvement initiatives.
